lifeizfab writes Peach edges out The Terminator in hill-hill final!
The beautiful city of Lugo in northern Spain was, for the third consecutive year the venue for this popular event.
This year, largely due to the economic crisis and the proximity of the Qatar Open, the entries were lower than expected.
The event with 30,000 euros in the prize fund attracted only 90 participants but what it lacked in quantity was compensated for by the quality.
No less than 3 current world champions and one ex world champion were attracted to this corner of Spain. Current 8 ball champion and world ranked number one, Ralf Souquet, 9 ball champion Daryl Peach, Straight Pool champion Niels Feijen were joined by ex-champ Oliver Ortmann. These weren’t the only “names” at the event, Francisco Bustamante made the long trip from the Philipinnes to play in the tournament and to stage some exhibitions during the Spanish Championships which take place immediately after the “Open”.
The brackets were littered with household names such as Marcus Chamat from Sweden, David Alcaide from Spain together with last year’s winner Francisco Diaz also of Spain and runner up Manuel Gama of neighbouring Portugal.
The venue was a Congress Centre on the banks of Lugo’s River Minho. 25 Dynamic II tables were set up and there was live streaming from the main table.

lifeizfab writes Seven new tournaments will be staged in the coming season as part of World Snooker's innovative Pro Challenge Series.
The series, which starts in late July, will be open to all 96 players on the professional circuit, giving extra opportunities to play competitive matches and compete for prize money.
The series will supplement the Tour of world ranking and invitation tournaments run by World Snooker.
Four of the seven events in the Pro Challenge Series will use the standard 15-red format, while the other three will use the Super Sixes format, which was first trialled at the recent Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.

lifeizfab writes 2009 East Derbyshire Amateur Pool Championships
Warwickshire's Mark White has won his latest Premier Pool Promotions event, the 2009 East Derbyshire Amateur Championships, overcoming a strong field of local competitors to land first prize.
No one can deny Mark's run to the final as he eliminated Vivek Makh, Mark Singleton, Tom Lammin and Mark Berriman en route to victory which he completed by defeating Sheffield's Darrell Cheetham. In fact Darrell was the surprise package of the tournament beating both Craig Lakin and Pete Wright along the way.
The biggest shock of the event was perhaps the first round encounter which saw Ilkeston's John McMahon defeat Sheffield's seasoned veteran Terry Hunt, while Warwickshire's Kieron Farrell had a good run to the last 8 before bowing out to Mark Berriman.
All in all it was a great event as always at Ilkeston's Q Room with the next Q Room event provisionally scheduled for Saturday 29th August. Telephone/text 07708 502906 for details.

lifeizfab writes 100th Euro Tour bonus prize:
The IBPF announced at the recent Dynamic German Open Euro Tour event that it will be paying a bonus of €2000 to the player who is ranked 100th on the European rankings after the Dynamic Euro Tour in Austria.
The reason behind this is the fact that this will be the 100th Euro Tour event since the tournament series started in 1992. There is a condition that whoever that player might be, they must have competed at the event in Austria otherwise it will be carried over to the next event in the Netherlands. That condition will continue until a player is participating and is ranked 100 after the event.
IBPF President David Morris said “It is a great achievement to reach the 100th Eurotour and what a prize to give. Somebody will be smiling after that event with €2000 that they never thought they could win by being ranked 100th on the European rankings”

lifeizfab writes Sheffield's Terry Hunt is winning most PPP events in South Yorkshire just lately and last month's victory at the Miscues Pool Series Event 2 in Barnsley was the latest.
Terry reached the first event final in April and will look for a hat-trick of final appearances in July. In the meantime he had a great win over Derbyshire's Liam Bullock at June's final. Liam has been absent from tournament pool for a few months but showed that he still has the ability to perform and had a great run to reach the Event 2 final.
Another local player, Nick Wollerton, eliminated two other Derbyshire players (Paul Smith and Craig Lakin) in the early going and reached the quarter-finals before defeat against Aggie Bailie. Aggie, in turn, losing to Terry in the Semi-Finals. Liam Bullock had a fantastic win over Manchester's Matt Brierly and also defeated two fellow Derbyshire opponents (Stephen Bennett and Tom Lammin) en route to the final. Meanwhile JJ Faul made the Semis and had a good win over Event One finalist, Temujin Dixon, along the way.
